Gear Cut (Open Loop)
Advanced Users Only - Factory support cannot be given for the configuration of gear cut as it is gearbox/driver dependant. SERIOUS DAMAGE TO GEARBOXES CAN OCCUR IF NOT SETUP CORRECTLY!
The open loop gear cut system uses a load cell or switch to determine when a gear shift is commanded. At that point, the ignition, fuel or both is cut for a a specified amount of time, by a specified cut percent, based on the gear shift tables.
A typical layout for configuring is shown below, essentially, every item under "Gear Shift" on the tree view should be opened.

The Load sell should be assigned to a chosen Analogue Input (Load Cell Ana [2291] is the software pathway to select in your chosen channel. If you are using a digital button to ground (such as clutch switch or button on the shift lever) then instead assign a Digital Input to "Gear Shift Switch". You'll select which to monitor in the Gear Shift Settings driver as either "Digital Pin" or "Load Cell" in the Source drop down.
Set your load cell settings based on a data log carrying out changes and monitoring "Load Cell Ana" (Under Inputs in the tree view)
Arming State:
Triggering a gear change: As long as the SW/Load cell is in the active state for “Arming Time(ms)” duration, and all the other conditions: min RPM, TPS (Throttle), VSS (Vehicle Speed) are met, the gear change will be triggered.
Introducing Cut State:
After the arming time, the ECU enters the “Introducing cut” state. In this state, the various cuts are effected (depending on “Cut Mode” setting). The percentage of events to be cut is determined from the “Gear Shift Perc” tables for fuel and ignition.
Cutting State:
Depending on the “End Shift Type” setting, the ECU stays in this state until:
- For “Time” -based shift: Until the “Gear Shift Dur.” value from the table elapses.
- For “Switch State” -based shifts. Until the switch is no longer in the active state (clutch pedal no longer pressed for example).
Re-add State:
At this point, the ECU re-adds all the ignition/injection events that were cut before. The rate at which these are added depends on the “Gear Shift Re-Add Dur” value from the table in milliseconds.
DROs Used:
GS Status (see above): Off, Arming, Introd Cut, Re-Add.
GS SW Status - switch status for triggering gearshift control algorithm.
GS Inj Trim - as per name.
GS Ign Add - read from the table, as per name suggests.
GS Cut Perc - value read from the table to determine what % of ignition/injection events to cut.
GS Cut Dur - as per name, only used for “time-based” shifts.
GS Re-Add Dur - as per name.
Inputs>Load Cell Ana - The voltage read from the Load Cell as assigned in your Analog Channel Settings.
