Triggering Voltage Levels
The GEN2 onwards ME Wire-Ins feature user settable trigger levels for the VR inputs, or, automatic detection mode.
You can select which mode in the the Engine Driver:

With VR Auto-Adapt set to yes, the system will record the highest voltage (reset every 85millseconds) and only consider a voltage peak of at least 66% of that level to be considered a pulse. This is constantly updated on a per tooth basis so as the voltage increases with engine speed, the system requires a higher and higher voltage to trigger. The downside is if there is enough electrical noise (approx 40mV) when the engine isn't running, the adaptive system will consider it to be a tooth. In these cases, you should set the option to "no".
You can then set the "Table Crank Trg. Lvl." / "Table Cam Trg. Lvl." (under System) to state the voltages at what RPM are deemed to be true events. The table works from 0.04V up to 5V - allowing rejection of static and background noise.
If you find you have IRQs counting up before even cranking the engine, there maybe engine bay electrical noise which voltage based filtering will likely cure. Simply set the VR Adapt mode to NO in engine driver, then increase all of the RPM voltages in the Crank Trig. Lvl. table (under system node in the entity tree) until the Crank IRQs stop counting up while the engine is not cranking - making the ECU ignore the background voltage waveform. Note that VR voltage increased with RPM of the engine, but noise typically does not, so the below is a typical "table shape":
